Mimi is a cellist, composer, sound designer, and multimedia artist.
Exploring texture, melody, and the dynamic interplay between organic and electronic elements, Mimi creates compelling juxtapositions which take listeners on a sonic and multisensory journey.
Mimi’s unique sound and collaborative approach led to the formation of an interdisciplinary project with DJ Julianna Cuervo and visual artist Juu Mujica for Argentina’s Otoño Polifonico festival in March 2023, generously supported by the British Council.
She was also recently commissioned by the Kathak dancer Mansi Dabral to create a bespoke score for Kanyaa - The Daughter, under the mentorship of Balbir Singh.
Fascinated with the intersection between music and technology, Mimi is developing a debut piece in virtual reality, with funding from Arts Council England.
In 2023 Mimi had her debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival premiering VV: her piece for cello, spoken word, and video, through the Insights Digital platform.
Mimi studied cello with Dr. Alfia Nakipbekova and composition with Dr. Jacob Thompson-Bell at Leeds Conservatoire. She has received masterclasses from Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Tunde Jegede, Oliver Coates, Karine Georgian, Nicolas Achten, Jennifer Langridge, Deborah York, Vienna Trio, and gamba players Robert Coates and Lucas Guimaraes Peres.
Curiosity compelled Mimi to explore technology. She is inspired by the potential it has to educate, entertain, and modernise the creative industries.
As a thought leader, she has presented her ideas on how digital innovations can help reach wider audiences across Europe including Adobe, European broadcaster ARTE, and the IMZ International Music and Media Centre.
Since 2022, Mimi has been working in the field of XR and spatial computing as a producer, creative developer, and sound designer. She has worked with multidisciplinary teams and multinational brands to deliver products for VR, XR, location based AR, and launched one of the first apps on the Apple Vision Pro.
As a creative, Mimi also uses immersive and interactive technologies as an additional medium to her own art, creating a VR music video and taking a demo to the ART*VR Festival in Prague in late 2023.
Mimi has extensive experience shaping and influencing public policy with the goal of improving education for all - specifically arts education.
Her work as a Panelist for the Office for Students brought her together with senior leaders across higher education at a governmental, sectoral, and university level to bring about cultural and structural change for students and performing arts education across the UK.
Mimi has also helped shape higher music education internationally, sitting on the Council for the European Association of Conservatoires since 2019 and providing insight on emerging professionals, new business models, and technology to modernise and future-proof the profession.
She has also been a member of the Digitisation Working Group for two Creative Europe projects (ARTEMIS and SMS) looking at enhancing digital usage and capacity within higher music education; researching current trends.
In November 2021, Mimi launched the European Performing Arts Students' Association: the leading voice for performing arts students in Europe. She was elected Vice-President in 2023 and continues to champion and empower the next generation to be intercultural and forward-thinking multipliers in their local communities.
She is frequently invited to review institutions and study programmes across Europe with QA organisations, and in 2024 was appointed onto the Advisory Group for the QAA's SBS Review for Music, working alongside practitioners from across the UK.
Combining her broad experience in education with her communication and digital skills, Mimi has also worked at the forefront of education technology in one of the largest distance learning departments in the country. She is a certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, and a member of the Association of Learning Technologists.
Mimi is also a tutor at Leeds Conservatoire, teaching the Junior department and Actor Musicians.
Mimi is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AdvanceHE) for her work in education technology, supporting diverse learner groups, student representation, and policymaking.
Mimi combines all her experiences above for the betterment of the creative and cultural sector internationally. She has provided multifaceted insight, ideas, and lived experience to the European Commission, the UK Government, and to senior stakeholders across music, arts, education, and technology.
She was appointed as a Fellow of the European Music Council from 2022-2024, a Director of the F-List for Music in 2020, an Advisory Panelist for the Cultural Learning Alliance in 2021, and a Director of the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM) in 2022.
